Where is Tokyo Sta. area?
Tokyo station is located at Marunouchi and most of Shinkansen (bullet trains) stops here. Many local trains also stop at Tokyo station so there are lots of people changing trains. About 470,000 people enter Tokyo station’s ticket gates in a day. Since lots of large company’s main offices are at Marunouchi, you’ll see a number of business men as well. Marunouchi is a beautifully maintained town in Tokyo and the center of business and fashion.

Tokyo Station
Tokyo station has been the important position of transportations from the past. Tokyo station’s beautiful octagonal dome was built in 1914 by Tatsuno Kingo, a famous Japanese architect. It is designated as an important cultural property by the government. Some parts of the building were destroyed by the war but were reconstructed right after the war in 1945. You can feel the history of the station and find a number of stores and restaurants! Tokyo station is like a maze even to Japanese…! Below are sightseeing spots in Tokyo station.

Gin no Suzu (Silver bell)
This big monument of silver bell is at B1 floor of the station inside the ticketing gates. It is 4th generation silver bell since 1914. This monument is loved by Japanese for very long time.

Dourin no Hiroba (Driving wheel square)
There are 3 driving wheels at this square at B1 floor of the station outside the ticketing gates. These were actually used as wheels for a steam locomotive. You can find this square at Marunouchi Underground South exit.

Tokyo station gallery is a museum in front of the Tokyo station’s Marunouchi North exit. It is famous for its exhibition rooms with brick walls that we can feel history of the station. Museum has temporal exhibitions so please check the schedule before you visit.

First Avenue Tokyo station
First Avenue Tokyo station is an entertaining area where has Tokyo Character Street, Tokyo Ramen Street, and Tokyo Okashi (Snacks) Land. Literally many stores are lined up from character, fashion, to Ramen stores. We strongly recommend visit Tokyo Ramen street because every stores here are very popular! Usually stores have queues so it would be good to visit with time to spare.

Gyokodori Street
Gyokodori street is the most famous and symbolic street in Tokyo and Marunouchi. Once you get out the Marunouchi Center exit of Tokyo station, there is the long Gyokodori street connected to Imperial Palace. Emperors used this street when they needed to use Tokyo station to visit countryside of Japan in the past. Now it is opened to public and it feels great walking here!

Yaesu Chikagai (Yaesu underground shopping street)
Yaesu Chikagai or Yaesu Shopping Mall is a big shopping street located at underground of near Tokyo station. About 180 stores or restaurants are lined up. As this street is directly connected to Tokyo station, you won’t get wet to visit here even it is raining. You may find some unique Japanese souvenirs here!

“A shopping mall built at where it used to have Tokyo Central Post Office”
Kitte
KITTE was opened on March, 2013 in front of Marunouchi South exit of Tokyo station. This place used to have Tokyo Central Post Office and changed to this KITTE. KITTE means ‘stamp on a letter’ or ‘come’ in Japanese. Some parts of the building is using Tokyo Central Post Office’s building parts. Even the building itself is new, you may feel nostalgic.

“Two symbolic commercial complexes in front of Marunouchi South exit”
Marubiru / Shin Marubiru
Marubiru is a big commercial complex building opened in 2002. About 140 selected stores and restaurants are in this building. 35th and 36th floors are classified as a premium restaurant zone that you can enjoy delicious meals with wonderful view of Tokyo. You can see beautiful Tokyo view from the indoor observatory at 35th floor too.Shin Marubiru was opened in 2007. It is a big commercial complex as Marubiru and has about 150 high sense stores and restaurants. Restaurants are at 5th to 7the floor. It would be a great time to walk around Marubiru and Shin Marubiru!

Marunouchi Nakadori Street
Roadside trees are beautifully lined up at this street where has fancy restaurants, cafes, high brand stores, commercial complexes, and office buildings. Some events are held depending on the season. Our recommendation is the illumination lights in December for Christmas.

“Beautiful and big greenery in the middle of Tokyo”
Imperial Palace Plaza and East Garden
Imperial Palace Plaza is where you can see the famous Nijubashi Bridge or Glasses Bridge or Double Arched Bridge. Since this place is where Edo castle was built in the past, you can see history of Edo Castle. You cannot enter the Imperial Palace because emperors are still living there. Feel the calm and organized atmosphere at this plaza. East Garden is located at the eastern part of Imperial Palace. Some areas of Edo Castle was reconstructed as garden and opened to the public in 1968. It is very big garden that it makes us feel we’re not in Tokyo. You can see Edo Castle’s remains here.

“Beautiful park with water fountain near Tokyo station”
Wadakura Funsui Koen
This Wadakura Funsui Koen or Wadakura Water Fountain park was built in 1961 to celebrate the marriage of Heisei Emperor. In 1995, a monument was newly built to celebrate Reiwa Emperor’s marriage. There is a restaurant and a monument inscribed with a poem by Heisei Emperor. It is a beautiful and peaceful park.

Marunouchi Brick Square
Marunouchi Brick Square was opened on September, 2009 under the concept of ‘Marunouchi Comfort.’ It is a commercial complex of high sense stores and fashionable restaurants. 35 stores and restaurants are lined up from B1 floor to 3rd floor of the building. Near to this Marunouchi Brick Square, there is Ichihokan Square and Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum. You can have a relaxing time at this area’s nice atmosphere.
