“Japan’s first private museum opened in 1902!”

Okura Museum of Art in Toranomon, near Roppongi, was opened by Kihachiro Okura in 1902 to display his collections. He mainly collected Japanese artworks to stop outflow of them. Okura Museum of Art has about 2,500 collections of paintings, ceramics, lacquers, sculptures, and more from Japan and other Asian countries.
