Once you go out the Ueno station, Ueno park with a lot of greenery is located in front of you. Beautiful nature show up in each season at this big park. Walking through such a park, there is Ueno Zoo, the first zoo opened in Japan. It is always busy as a very popular spot for families and couples! Ameyoko street, a 500 meters-long local shopping arcade lined with about 400 stores, is located just South of Ueno station. The street is a symbol of Ueno and is packed with cheap stores.

After you get out the Ueno station, this beautiful park waits you there. It is a large park that has museums and zoo in the site. The statue of Takamori Saigo in the park is also famous. (Watch the movie Last Samurai if you don’t know him…!) The park is selected as the 100 beautiful places for cherry blossoms. We would definitely like you to visit here when you’re in Tokyo in Spring!

Shinobazu Pond is a large pond in the Ueno Park. This oasis in the busy city has 3 areas, ‘a lotus pond-covered with stunning lotus flowers in July & August,’ ‘a boat pond-where you can enjoy boat ride,’ and ‘a duck pond-inhabited by ducks.’ You can admire variety of views throughout the year!

Ueno Toshogu Shrine is magnificently located in the Ueno park with about 400 years history. It is a famous shrine enshrining the great Shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa, who built the Edo period and unified Japan for the first time. Shining gold gate is designated as an Important Cultural Property by the government!

The large building in front of Ueno station’s park gate is this Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. It was built and opened in 1961 as an authentic music hall where people can play opera or ballet. Various shows are held regularly that makes here always crowded!

Ueno park located in front of Ueno station has famous museums including the National Museum of Western Art that its building is certified as a World Heritage Site. This National Museum of Western Art is located about 5 minutes away from Ueno station in Ueno park. Le Corbusier, one of the best architects in the 20th century, designed this museum’s building and the building itself was certified as a World Heritage Site in 2016. The museum exhibits masterpieces of Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne and more. Please soak into the world of art at this special museum.

Permanent exhibitions are divided into Japan gallery and global gallery which explain the history of Japan and the earth from scientific points of view. Shimura Shoten stands out the most at the famous Ameyoko shopping arcade in Ueno. This store is always crowded by selling various chocolates at bargain prices. Shimura Shoten sells at a flat rate, JPY 1,000 per bag and packs chocolate snacks as much as the clerk wants to. It is called ‘tataki-uri’ in Japanese and you can get chocolate snacks worth JPY 3,000. Why don’t you enjoy getting Japanese chocolate snacks at best deal ever!

Ueno frontier tower, a shopping complex, was opened in 2017 at Ueno. Commercial floors are on the 1st basement floor~10th floor which include ‘Matsuzakaya,’ a department store on the basement floor, ‘PARCO_ya,’ shopping areas on the 1st~6th floor, and ‘TOHO CINEMAS Ueno,’ a movie theater on the 7th~10th floors. All generations can enjoy from fashions, gourmet, to watching movies!

Ueno no Mori Sakura Terrace is a complex opened in 2014 with 1st basement floor and 3 floors above ground. The concept of this complex is a canyon that connects the Ueno station and the Ueno park. Various restaurants are lined up at this fashionably composed building.
